Nobody plans to crash with their bike right? Here is our guide to Motorcycle First Aid.
Riding safe and preventing a crash is always the goal, but let's be honest, crashing with our bikes happens to best of us. That's why it's important to be prepared for when it happens.
We are riding all-road around the world on two motorbikes. In this article we discuss:
- First aid training
- How we packed the supplies
- What we bring with us (and hope never to use)
First Aid Training
It is useless to bring gear and not know how to use it. That's why trained, specifically for wilderness and motorcycle first aid.
Besides both being trained and experienced in first aid and Mitchel being a trained first responder, we did a two intensive course in wilderness first aid, with simulations of motorcycle accidents.
If you want to bring along first aid gear, please be informed and trained in using it, otherwise you could inflict more harm than doing good.
See what works for you, in a physical course isn't possible, maybe an online course is a good idea.
How we pack
The first aid kit:
- is stored in a quick access location;
- the location is the same on both bikes;
- the bags are color coded;
- both bikes have the same 'red bag' in the same location;
- the green bag on both bikes is different.
All of the above is so that in case of emergency we don't loss time on locating the bags or the stuff in it.
Color codes of the bags
Red = almost dead
Green = for which can later be seen
